1954年，学校始建，定名为江西省第一高级中学。

In 1954, the school was established as the First Upper Secondary School in Jiangxi Province.

1958年，学校更名为南昌市第五中学。^[4]

In 1958, the school was renamed the Fifth Secondary School in Nanchang City. ^[4]

1968年，受“文化大革命”影响，南昌五中迁往永修共大，湮没于“文革”动乱之中 。^[5]

In 1968, under the influence of the “Cultural Revolution”, Nan Chang-veng moved to Yong-hyun, not in the midst of the “Cultural Revolution”. ^[5]

2001年，在南昌市委、南昌市人民政府“一江两岸”、“教育兴昌”决策指导下，章跃进先生按照省重点中学的标准，在红谷滩重建起了新的南昌市第五中学。

In 2001, under the decision of the Nanchang Municipal Council and the Nanchang People's Government “On both sides of the 1st River” and “Education flourishing”, Mr. Zhang Jianjin re-established the new 5th High School in Nanchang City, in accordance with the criteria of the provincial priority secondary schools.

2009年，南昌市第五中学晋升为江西省重点中学；同年7月，南昌市第五中学举行55周年校庆。

In 2009, the fifth secondary school in Nanchang City was promoted to the priority secondary school in Jiangxi Province; in July of the same year, the fifth secondary school in Nanchang City celebrated its fifty-fifth anniversary.

2020年5月，南昌市第五中学评定为“全国家庭教育创新实践基地”。

According to the August 2020 school website, there are 96950 square metres of campuses, 70,000 square metres of school buildings and more than 2,700 students in the 5th secondary school in Nanchang city. There are high school departments, junior high schools, international departments and ancillary experimental primary schools.

2016届飞翔班，600分以上的同学达19人，21位同学分别考取上海交通大学、同济大学、南开大学、厦门大学、中南大学、华南理工大学等“985”工程高校和美国威斯康辛大学、杨百翰大学、法国巴黎大学，一本上线率达95%，二本上线率达100%。

The 2016 Flying Course was attended by 19 students at 600 or more, and 21 students took “985” engineering higher schools, such as Shanghai Transport University, Hoyoji University, Nancai University, Xiamen University, China South University, South China University of Technology and the University of Wisconsin, Yang Behan University, University of Paris, France, with 95 per cent and 100 per cent access to one and two.

1957年，南昌五中首届毕业生中，21人考取清华大学，11人考取北京大学，数百被哈尔滨军事工程学院、复旦大学、同济大学、中山大学等高校录取，创下了江西高考的历史记录。

In 1957, out of the first high school graduates of Nanchang V, 21 took Qinghua University, 11 took Beijing University, and hundreds were enrolled in high schools such as Harbin School of Military Engineering, Gangdan University, Hoonzi University and Nakayama University, creating an historic record of the Jiangxi High School.

2004年，复办后的南昌五中首届学生毕业，1人以理科695的高分考入清华大学。

In 2004, the first students in the second cycle of the resumed Nanchang V graduated and one was enrolled in Qinghua University with a high score of 695 in science.

2017年高考，南昌市第五中学飞翔班一本上线率95%，600分以上15人，全校一本上线人数77人，二本上线人数203人。^[6]

2018年高考，南昌市第五中学1人以704的高分获得江西省理科第五名，录取北京大学；1人以665的高分获得江西省文科第八名。

In 2018, one of the fifth secondary schools in Nanchang city received the fifth degree of science in Jiangxi province at a high score of 704 and was admitted to Beijing University; one received the eighth place of arts in Jiangxi province at a high score of 665.

2019年高考，南昌市第五中学文理科6人进入江西省前100名，1人以692的高分获得江西省理科第七名。^[7]

In 2019, six people from the Fifth Secondary School in Nanchang entered Jiangxi province for the first 100 and one acquired the seventh place of the science department of Jiangxi with a high score of 692. ^[7]
